Highway 401 Kingston to Gananoque, Accidents, Closures, Traffic News

At 4:30 p.m., 12 hours after two trucks collided in a crash that killed one driver, police were still waiting for the Ministry of Transportation to assess whether that section of the highway would need to be resurfaced.

Downtown Kingston is gridlocked.

I really don’t understand how or why it takes so long to reopen the Highway after a major accident sometimes. No disrespect intended whatsoever to the deceased driver or his family, but the Police should complete their neccesary investigations, then the road should be cleared as quickly as possible. It should surely be possible to at least open one lane fairly quickly, even if the road surface is damaged it should still be possible to allow speed restricted traffic through. Slow moving traffic on 401 is better than no traffic.
