Officers of the Gananoque Police Service investigated 74 occurrences during the seven day period ending September 16th, 2012. This included 18 criminal occurrences, 4 calls to 911 for assistance, 1 motor vehicle collision, and 6 traffic stops. 2 Provincial Offence Notices were issued under the Highway Traffic Act and 1 issued under the Liquor Licence Act.

On September 10th, 2012 officers received a report of a counterfeit bill being found by a local business. The same bill was reported by another business 10 days earlier. The counterfeit bill is a Canadian $20 bill with the serial number AUC8669200. Anyone with information concerning these bills is asked to call Crimestoppers or The Gananoque Police Service.

On September 11th, 2012 police received a report from a local business receiving a fax which was believed to be a scam. The fax requested assistance in dealing with a large sum of money from an African nation. The fax was forwarded to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre also known as Phonebusters. Anyone receiving similar solicitations by fax, email or mail is encouraged not to act on them, and forward the information to Phonebusters.

On September 11th, 2012 officers received a keep the peace request while property was to be removed from a residence. Officers attended and stood by while the property was removed without incident.

On September 11th, 2012 officers responded to a Stone Street South address in regards to a harassment complaint. Officers attended and spoke to the parties involved. They were advised to avoid any contact between each other. No charges laid at this time.

On September 12th, 2012 officers responded to a report of a youth out of control at a local residence. As a result of an investigation the male youth was arrested and charged with Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm. The male youth was held in custody for a show cause hearing.

On September 12th, 2012 officers received a request to assist the fire department with evacuation of a local area business while the fire department dealt with a fire in progress.

On September 12th, 2012 officers responded to a local area business regarding a noise complaint involving intoxicated males. The males were located and cautioned regarding the noise bylaw. No charges were laid.

Officers received a report of mischief to a vehicle located at a King Street West residence. The vehicle was found with a shattered windshield and a 2×4 piece of wood was observed nearby. Officers attended to collect evidence and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers received a complaint from a concerned citizen regarding fast driving vehicles around the school areas, often squealing tires and accelerating, most often during lunch hour when the kids are outside of the school buildings. Drivers are reminded that these areas are community safety zones and fines are increased due to the risk of the children’s wellbeing.

Officers received information regarding a male known to be in possession of controlled substances. Officers attended and located the 18 year old suspect on Garden Street where he was arrested. During a search of the male, a quantity of marihuana and a white powder substance believed to be cocaine were seized. The male was transported to the station where he was later released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking before an officer in charge.

Officers responded to a request for assistance from ambulance dispatch for a suspicious call of an 81 year old male who had fallen down. Officers attended with EMS who assessed the male. The male was arrested for public intoxication, transported to the police station and later released with a Provincial Offence Notice.

Officers responded to a Main Street business regarding a mischief to two vending machines and an unknown amount of money was stolen. The incident is believed to have occurred between 11pm and 2am. Police continue to follow-up on evidence gathered during the course of the investigation and anticipate an arrest in the future in regards to the incident.
